Prime Real Estate for Payment Related QR Codes
Published 8/8/24
QR codes are a popular tool for engaging with customers. Scan statistics have been steadily increasing in recent years, and trends predict QR code use will only continue to increase. Whether it’s at restaurants or sporting events, it’s likely your payers are already scanning QR codes regularly.
The steady increase in popularity and customer familiarity makes QR codes a great tool to include in your communications. QR codes directly connect your payers to online payments, allowing them to skip typing in a URL and instead be directed immediately to your payment portal. Including them in your marketing routine can improve the user experience and boost digital adoption over time.
While QR codes are a great tool, there are strategic locations you can use them to drive better results. Here are our recommendations for places to include a QR code linked to your payment portal:
- Your invoice: Your invoice is our favorite recommendation for including a QR code. QR codes on your invoice give customers easy access to make a payment while they’re already looking at their invoice.
- Your invoice envelopes: Double up on QR codes in mailed invoices with a QR code envelope teaser. This helps catch customers’ attention and gives them an easy path to payments without even needing to open the envelope.
- In-office signage: Including a QR code on your in-office signage can help redirect some in-person payments to online payments. This is especially helpful if you ever have lines of customers waiting to make a payment. A QR code on well-placed signage can encourage customers to skip the line and pay online.
- Direct mail: We recommend including a QR code on any additional direct mail sent to customers. QR codes give customers a specific action item to take and help you gauge the effectiveness of your direct mail campaign.
While we recommend using QR codes in your communications, they’re best used only in strategic locations. Here a couple of places you should avoid using QR codes in your marketing routine:
- Social media posts: Most customers access social media on their smartphones which is also the tool they’d need to scan your code. Including them in your social media posts would prevent most customers from being able to scan your code.
- Your website: Similarly to social posts, customers frequently access your website on their smartphones, preventing them from being able to scan your code while on your site and eliminating the effectiveness of your QR code.
