Stay Safe This Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Published 10/16/25

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and your inbox is probably full of themed emails—mixed in with Halloween party invites. But cybersecurity doesn’t have to be as scary as the ghosts shouting “Trick or treat!” at your door. At InvoiceCloud, we’ve got a few simple tips to help you stay safe online.

Keep Your Devices Up to Date

One of the easiest ways to protect your devices is to keep them updated with the latest software. If you’re browsing and Chrome prompts you to “Click to finish update,” stop what you’re doing and click it. Don’t delay—when you see an official update notice, act on it right away.

Beware of Fake Alerts and Turn On Auto Updates

Watch out for fake pop-up ads claiming your computer has viruses or needs an urgent update. Those warnings are scams that can harm your device.

Follow the update instructions from your device’s manufacturer (like Apple or Microsoft), and turn on automatic updates so they happen behind the scenes. Don’t forget your phone—cybercriminals are increasingly targeting mobile devices too.

In short: when an update is available, apply it!
