How to Refund a Cloud Store Payment Made In-Person with Apple Pay or Google Pay
Refunding a Cloud Store payment starts with one question: how was it paid? Mobile wallet payments tapped at an EMV card reader have their own refund steps, so this article walks you through that process and explains how it differs from your standard refunds.
Why the standard refund fails
Apple Pay and Google Pay use a digital payment credential instead of passing along the payer’s card number during the transaction. When you try to refund one of these payments through the standard workflow, it’ll fail with a “card number not available” or “card number not allowed” error. The card number simply isn’t there for the system to process.
How to refund it correctly
Instead of creating a separate credit transaction, locate the original Cloud Store payment and initiate the refund from that transaction.
Navigate to the Search Payments page, locate the original Cloud Store transaction, and select the red refund icon associated with the payment.
From there, review the transaction details and follow the prompts to complete the refund.
For Cloud Store payments, the refund option may remain available even after the payment batch has settled.
It’s a small difference, but knowing it upfront saves a failed refund attempt down the line.
